If a Persona is a mask, then a Shadow is the backside of that mask. Raw, suppressed feelings given form, they are a part of the person that they don't want others to see. When these emotions grow too powerful to suppress or are suddenly released, it becomes a physical entity called a Shadow. They have the thought patterns of wild animals, and they crave and hunger for more raw emotion like anger or fear.
Shadows currently reside in the Reversed World, roaming around and waiting for humans to stumble through the gateway. First, the Shadows devour the mind, emotions, and soul of the victim, then evolves or multiplies. Seeking sustenance, Shadows will even devour each other if necessary in pursuit of evolution. Should a person have their soul consumed by the Shadows in the Reversed World, they will die and their body will be found in the forest.
